F121 Salix sachalinensis Kioryo – tall ornamental willow with red/brown stems and abundant catkins

Description

A tall, ornamental willow with red/brown stems and beautiful early catkins in spring.

Grows 6-8′ in the first year and can be coppiced annually, ideally after the catkins have finished.

Some stems exhibit fasciation, or flattening, which can create a beautiful ornamental effect.  These stems usually have a higher than average concentration of leaves and catkins, and can curl at the ends.
