G004 Salix Hybrid Biofuel (Surge) – perfect for sticks/living willow projects

Description

This is an all round general viminalis hybrid willow that we use ourselves for our short rotational coppice beds for bio fule. We’ve named it “Surge” as it grows quite fast – 10′ ish on our clay soil in the first year. We grow in rows 1m apart and the cuttings are also 1m apart in the rows. Some sort of weed suppression is essential for the first 2 years eg silage sheet or turf removal and hand weeding.

After the first seasons growth, we choose the 3-5 thickest, most vertical rods and remove the rest from the stool to encourage growth in the remaining rods. In addition, we rub out any regrowth from the stool from June.

We harvest every 4 years and then cut into logs for our log burner.

The logs are stored in a log shed for 12 months to dry before burning.

Also suitable for willow sticks for plant supports etc.
