Description
A lovely bushy, upright ornamental shrub, Salix irrorata is native to USA and North Mexico but has been introduced to the UK and other parts of Europe.
It’s common names include blue-stem willow, dewystem willow or sandbar willow.
It has purple/red stems that are covered with an attractive white bloom that can give a bluey appearance, and grey catkins in the spring.
It has been awarded the Royal Horticulture Society’s Award of Garden Merit for it’s ornamental properties.
Great for wildlife gardens or screening, and does well in costal locations.
