Original Welsh Cyntell – Traditional Welsh Framed Basket. Model: “Colours of Autumn/Lliwiau’r Hydref” – 20″ diameter
1 in stock
“Colours of Autumn/Lliwiau’r Hydref” is a one-off original Welsh cyntell basket designed and woven by Justine Burgess. Justine has specially selected the natural willow colours from her National Plant Collection of Salix (over 260 varieties) to create a unique radiating starburst/ombre effect. The rich, warm colours bursting from the apex of the basket have been inspired by the beautiful seasonal colours found in the landscape and forest around her smallholding in West Wales.
Mellowing into shades of green, this cyntell is sure to stand out in any living room, bedroom or study.
Traditionally made for general agricultural purposes, the Cyntell is a traditional Welsh framed basket and would have been used to gather crops, carry animal feed and possibly sleep a young baby!
Today they are perfect as blanket baskets, toy baskets or for hanging out the washing.
Woven around a solid willow hoop and split willow ribs, Justine’s cyntell’s are a real heirloom basket and statement piece. The willow hoop and ribs are set around a former and can take up to a year to dry.
Justine was taught to weave the cyntell by Les Llewellyn, who in turn was taught by DJ Davies, the last person in Wales with the skills to weave the Cyntell.
All willow in this basket is grown on our smallholding in Wales. All bark colours are natural.
